Navigating and Organizing in List View

When in list view you can jump to a particular file or folder by typing the first one or two letters of it's name. If more than one file starts with the letter(s) you can use the tab key to alphabetically jump to the next file. This works in just about any version of the Mac OS you are likely to be running, including OS X, and it will also work in Icon View.

If you would rather not use the keyboard to navigate and you have particular items that you would always like to be at the top of the list, put a blank space before the name. Also, If you are using OS 9 (or before) you can have the item be at the bottom of the list by putting a tilde (˜) before the name.
