ModBook - Mac OS X tablet computer
San Francisco (January 09, 2007) - Axiotron, Inc. together with its strategic partner and exclusive US Distributor Other World Computing (OWC) today unveiled the ModBook, the first ever Mac OS X tablet computer solution on January 9th, at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco. Initial suggested retail prices begin at $2,279. "Built for mobile users, artists, students, medical practitioners and professionals, the Axiotron ModBook enables its user to draw and write directly on the screen, while the handwriting recognition built into Mac OS X Tiger not only turns hand scribbles into text in every application, but also provides extended control of the system through gesture recognition. So, you got a new iPod for Christmas, now what?
So, you got a new iPod for Christmas, now what? Fortunately there are a lot of good books answering just that question. I've had a chance to review three of them recently, and here is what I found. The first book is "iPod & iTunes for Dummies" from Wiley press. Now, say what you will about the "for Dummies" series of books. But some of them have advanced information that you can't find in other books, they are certainly not just for Dummies. While this book gives you a solid understanding of iPod and iTunes, it doesn't contain any surprises. A great book for the absolute beginner but the technogeeks out there might find it a little lacking. The next book we looked at was "iPod: The Missing Manual, Fifth Edition" from O"Reilly Press. This helps iPodders of all ages and skill levels squeeze more enjoyment from their new devices. It covers the basics--downloading and listening to music. It also shows readers how to download and watch movies or TV shows, and download contact files, calendars, photo albums, audio books, text files, games, and more. "It's full of color illustrations and the text has been recast as short little 'infonuggets' that only take up one or two pages per topic," says author J.D. Biersdofer "There's a simple explanation for every task and enough color graphics to show readers just what they need to do." We also found it to have a lot unique tips not found in other books. Get a sampling of some of them here. The last book we looked at was "iPod Fully Loaded" by Andy Ihnatko, also from Wiley publishing. It's not really a manual of how to use your iPod (check out one the books listed above for that), but it is THE book on getting just about anything into your iPod. Some of the techniques are covered in the O'Reilly's "Missing manual" But Andy has Tips on an amazing variety of techniques. Music, (including music from your old tapes and LPs - remember LPs?), video, radio, podcasts, documents, pictures, webpages, spreadsheets, email, etc. This book really opens up some possibilities regarding what you can do with your iPod. You'd be suprized. Your Editor, Clint Boerner 1/05/2007

Shooters at every level--from passionate enthusiasts to professionals--can learn how to get more from their new digital single lens reflex and point-and-shoot cameras. "These panel members can cover just about every imaginable aspect of digital photography, from capture, to post production, to output. Stephen and Mikkel have been part of the digital revolution from the very beginning. And Ken has emerged as an expert in workflow. This is really an all star group we have," says Derrick Story, O'Reilly Media Evangelist. Go to the Book Passage site for more information 1/04/2007

From iPhoto 6 for Mac OS X: Visual QuickStart Guide: "There are two types of people when it comes to photos. First are the Martha Stewart types who manage to organize every picture into precious handmade albums constructed of used tissues and old grocery bags. Then there are the rest of us who dump our pictures in a box, and that's if we remember to develop the film in the first place. In this chapter, Adam Engst focuses on iPhoto's organizational features. Some require a little effort, but even with no work, your digital photo collection will be far better organized than the box in the closet." From Read More... |
