Cool Scripts and Apps

I found this site, Jon's Little Page of AppleScripts, when looking into the security issue noted below. There is a simple tool for checking for failed password attempts called, appropriately enough, "Check Failed Password Attempts". But I also found a bunch of other useful scripts and applications there, one of particular interest for troubleshooting is "Preferential Treatment", a tool for finding corrupted preference files.

Macintosh Security

There is an interesting report today on the macintouch site regarding security and a recent increase in cracking attempts against Macs (go to the March 26, 2005 section if you don't find it on the home page). You should also check out their Macintosh Security and Privacy section, it's an excellent resource.

Backing up is good to do

Everyone should backup their Mac on regularly. Now there is a free product from Substance Software called Phew (an appropriate name should a problems arise) that you really should check out if you don't already have a backup solution.
